Why We Should Drink Our Food

Imagine dining with a person who takes at least a minute to chew a bite of food.  if I calculate, then I would be sitting for good half an hour extra seeing the person ruminate because it would take him at least  half an hour more to eat the same amount of food I take to finish which is less than 10 minutes.   The mere thought of seeing him masticate his food makes me exasperated.  On top of this, imagine when your feel he’s almost done, he sits down again and takes small sips of water and with each sip, it feels he’s almost chewing his liquid. One might just start pulling one’s hair out and scream in mind, never again!

But that’s exactly how we should be eating.  We should drink our food and chew our liquids. Let me elaborate a bit here. Each bite that we take into our mouth, should be chewed so well that it should become almost liquid-y. This will not only mix saliva juices properly with the food and aid in digestion but will also add our chi or energy to the food. The food gets our print, in a way and is easily accepted by the body.

When we wolf the food down, we make it exceedingly difficult for our system.  Let me explain with an example:

Let’s assume you gulp down a big bite of food without putting it through the grind of our teeth.  That big bite lands into our stomachs. Stomach doesn’t digest carbohydrates, so it is sent to the small intestine.  small intestine has to break down the entire food and that too quickly. It doesn’t have enough resources to do it on its own so it calls the attention of the entire system.  the blood from the body rushes into the gut and starts helping in digestion of the food that you didn’t have time to chew.  Even after all the might of small intestine, some big, unbroken down food gets sent into the large intestine. The undigested food stays there causing toxicity in the system. Flatulence, constipation, bloating is the result.

This keeps happening as meal after meal you keep doing the same thing.  It’s not long before the system starts sending warning signals and if unheeded, leads to diseases like GERD, IBS, polyps, diverticulitis and other diseases.

To cut the long story short, if you want to stay healthy for ever and ever then chew your food really well, so that the load on our gut is minimum and it can do its work with ease.

And yes, if you see someone eating like a cow, then sit with him and try eat like him too.  it’ not easy but if our system is working 24/7 for us, we can also work a little for it. After all, it is for us, our well being, our health and our life. So take care of it and it will take care of you. That’s certain!
